Some recent sketchbook ideas, these are made regularly en plein air or on reflection in my art studio. I often explore painting ideas in acrylic. These are preparatory sketches for my 'Thames Path Paintings'. I keep many sketchbooks on the go and contribute to them regularly.

As for the materials I use: These are my own handmade sketchbooks, I find pre-made sketchbooks frustrating; they’re never quite the right size or shape or weight! If I make them myself I can control all of these elements. I mentioned acrylics already; a ubiquitous but fabulous material, I use it all the time in one way or another. I also use watercolours, some that I grind myself and some are ready-made. Oh, and some pencils too of course.
